In order to retrofit an entire projector, you'd have to have everything spaced out exactly how the manufacturer had it. I.e. the distance between the bulb and the projector lens would have to be exactly the same as it was in the stock housing, whether acura, bmw, 350z, etc. Take a magnifying glass, for example, and move it slightly, say one millimeter out and in. Notice how huge the difference in size is of the object in view? The same thing goes for projectors. It's basically a magnifying glass that projects the light in a specific place, depending on how the entire setup is engineered. Moving forward, you would have to be able to fit that lens into the stock 300zx housing, and have the bulb mounted the exact distance from it that it was in the original housing. Thus, you would have to customize a mount for the bulb, which the D2R/D2S bulbs are fragile enough as it is, let alone trying to use one to measure the distance b/t the bulb and lens in the system you're rigging. That's on top of the fact that it's likely no projector lens is exactly the same size as the stock 300zx lens, let alone the fact that they're surely not in the same housing/bracket. This is the least of your worries, however, as I'm sure you could rig some way to fit it in. Anyway, just some thoughts. I've gone the retrofitting route, and it was a major waste of my time, as I did it without enough research, and couldn't figure out whytf I couldn't see a dang thing in front of me when they were on. IMO, ~$80-$275 is far worth the time and effort you put into trying to retrofit bulbs/lenses. HIDs look great in the stock 300zx projectors. That's why so many people do it.
